Amy McGuiggan – Finding Emma
October 10 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Amy Whorf McGuiggan, author of My Provincetown: Memories of a Cape Cod Childhood and John Whorf Rediscovered, will discuss her new book, Finding Emma: My Search for the Family My Grandfather Never Knew and the discoveries she made about her maternal grandfather’s family and ancestry.
Family members had always been told that John Osborne had grown up an orphan and an only child. Six years of painstaking research uncovered a different truth. Amy will probe the question of whether learning and knowing something that was previously unknown – and that one has gone through life blissfully unaware of – matters.
Amy spent her childhood summers in Provincetown’s West End. Her paternal grandfather, John Whorf, was a prominent member of the early art colony and her ancestral roots can be documented back to 1760. Much of her work has been focused on keeping the town’s early history alive.
Copies of Amy’s new book, as well as a limited number of copies of My Provincetown, will be available. The event is free, open to all, and will take place in the Library’s Marc Jacobs Reading Room.
