Free Movie Nights: Cary Grant Film Festival
Wednesdays in January
5:30 pm
The Provincetown Public Library welcomes the community to participate in the Cary Grant Film Festival screened at the Provincetown Public Library during the month of January. This line-up of films, all featuring Cary Grant, one of classic Hollywood’s definitive leading men, has been curated by our very own film aficionado and Cary Grant fan, Khristine Hopkins! Patrons are encouraged to bring their own snacks and refreshments. The films start at 5:30 pm and will be shown in the following order:

January 2: Notorious (1946; 1 hour, 43 minutes): Ingrid Bergman. Doubling as an espionage thriller and a tortured love story, Alfred Hitchcock’s “Notorious” features record-breaking long screen kisses along with several unforgettable suspense sequences. Shot in the most velvety black and white.

January 9: The Awful Truth (1937; 1 hour, 31 minutes): Irene Dunne. Screwball comedy concerns the machinations of a soon-to-be-divorced couple, who go to great lengths to try to ruin each other’s romantic escapades, as well as retain custody of a dog. Lots of silly fun!

January 16: North by Northwest (1959; 2 hours, 16 minutes): Eva Marie Saint. Blockbuster from Alfred Hitchcock, who puts an athletic Cary Grant through his paces in an espionage film that crosses the US. As the cool blonde love interest, Eva Marie Saint sizzles.

January 23: An Affair to Remember (1957; 1 hour, 59 minutes): Deborah Kerr. An international playboy and a nightclub singer have a romance while on a cruise from Europe to New York. Despite being engaged to other people, both agree to reunite at the top of the Empire State Building in six months. Plenty of witty repartee as well as melodrama.

January 30: Charade (1963; 1 hour, 53 minutes): Audrey Hepburn. The chemistry between these two great stars adds extra sparkle to this exciting comic spy thriller. This movie has everything, including fabulous outfits by Audrey’s designer Hubert de Givenchy, and it’s shot on location in Paris.
