Free Movie Nights: Halloween on Film

The Provincetown Public Library welcomes the community to participate in the October free movie month comprised of five feature films that include iconic Halloween scenes. This line-up of classic and contemporary films has been carefully selected by Stephen Desroches, Board of Library Trustees Chair and Halloween aficionado. Each program will start with a short introduction and a brief discussion about why each film. The films start at 5:30 pm and will be shown in the following order:
October 2: Lady in White (1988; 1 hour, 53 minutes): An author tells the story of how, as a young boy growing up in a 1960s small town, he was haunted after witnessing the murder of a little girl.
October 9: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982; 1 hour, 55 minutes): A troubled child summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape Earth and return to his home world.
October 16: Arsenic and Old Lace (1944; 1 hours, 58 minutes): A drama critic learns on his wedding day that his beloved maiden aunts are homicidal maniacs, and that insanity runs in his family.
October 23: Meet Me in St. Louis (1944; 1 hour, 53 minutes): In the year leading up to the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, the four Smith daughters learn lessons of life and love, even as they prepare for a reluctant move to New York.
October 30: Trick or Treat (1952; short 8 minute film) & American Experience: War of the Worlds (2013; 53 minutes): An account of Orson Welles’ 1938 radio drama broadcast that inadvertently started a mass panic.
