Event at Provincetown Library launches second book in Provincetown Theme Week mystery series by Jeannette de Beauvoir
Homeport Press and the Provincetown Public Library announce a book launch for Murder at Fantasia Fair: A
Provincetown Mystery, the second in the publishing house’s theme week mystery series by Jeannette de Beauvoir, on Saturday, October 7, at 2:00 pm in the library.
Homeport Press calls the series “cozy mysteries with a twist” that are set during Provincetown’s famous theme weeks. Death of a Bear: A Provincetown Mystery, the first in the series, was published earlier this year. Author de Beauvoir will give a talk about the series as a whole and this novel in particular, and will do a brief reading. The Provincetown Bookshop will have books available for purchase and signing at the event.
Protagonist Sydney Riley is a wedding coordinator at one of Provincetown’s inns, and she never planned to be a sleuth; but when the oldest transgender event in the country is disrupted by murder, there’s not much else she can do. Who knew that festivals could be so—deadly?
“I am incredibly excited about this mystery series set in Provincetown,” says HomePort Press publisher Arthur Mahoney. “The town’s diverse population—and divergent opinions—make it the perfect setting for murder. The various theme weeks allow Jeannette to explore group dynamics, marginalization, and everyday acts of courage in an enjoyable read that subtly reminds us that we are more alike than different.”
The press plans to release two novels a year in a series that will include events such as Carnival, Women’s Week, the Portuguese Festival, and the Provincetown International Film Festival.
“It’s an opportunity to explore what happens when murder ups the ante and forces people to really scrutinize their opinions and beliefs,” says de Beauvoir. “And besides that? It’s just plain fun. We celebrate a lot of diversity here and do it
with joy, and the books tap into that as well.”
Murder at Fantasia Fair is available in mass-market paperback and ebook formats, available both online and from local independent booksellers.
