Winter Hath Come: Nantucket Sewer Main Failure and Response
Tuesday, May 14
5:30 pm
Seventy-five percent of the country uses a public sewer system to manage wastewater, but what happens when the sewer main breaks? What happens to fragile coastal resources when sewage is introduced? Roberto Santamaria, director of the Nantucket Health Department, will speak in Provincetown on what happened when the Nantucket Sewer Main failed in January 2018. In his role as both Health Director and Public Information Officer, Mr. Santamaria experienced firsthand the sewer main break and its aftermath. He will share how it happened, what went well, and his lessons learned.

Join us for this presentation on Tuesday, May 14, at 5:30 pm at the Provincetown Public Library, 356 Commercial Street, Provincetown.

This is the final installment of Wastewater 3.0: quarterly conversations with experts in the field of wastewater planning and management hosted by the Provincetown Board of Health.

Previous to working in Nantucket, Mr. Santamaria ran the Health Departments in Framingham and Everett. He is also a doctoral student in Public Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
