Writer’s Voice Cafe
Wednesday, October 10
6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
This month, the Provincetown Public Library continues its collaborative effort with the renowned Writers Voice Café. Continuing to further its mission of becoming a center for cultural storytelling in our community, the Library is working with the founding members of the Writer’s Voice Café to produce a series of monthly Cafés, Writing Workshops and Annual Events in 2018. Founded by Dian Hamilton with Hilde Oleson and Lorraine Kujawa joining shortly thereafter, the Writer’s Voice Café provides writers of all media opportunities to share their work and to connect with others in the community for support and inspiration.
On Wednesday, October 10, the Writer’s Voice Café will feature Out Late, a roots rock and blues band that includes singer/songwriter Diana Di Gioia and harmony vocalist Melody Masi. The duo will perform songs from their new CD, Nevermore. Their music blends word nerd lyrical skills with rock n’ roll energy.
The October Writer’s Voice Café event at the Provincetown Public Library will be held in the Marc Jacobs Reading Room on Wednesday, October 10 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Open Mic begins the evening. Coffee, tea, and snacks will be served. Everyone is welcome! Free will donation. Wheelchair accessible.
More about Out Late: Roots rock and blues meet witty, compelling storytelling in the songs of Out Late’s Diana Di Gioia.
The Cape Cod Times calls her songs “finely honed narratives with telling details”. The Outer Cape’s Payomet Center for the Arts says, “Diana and her band bring youthful energy, exuberant sound and fun storytelling to her original body of songs.” Di Gioia’s first CD was featured on the American Public Radio series “This Way Out”, and made the “Out Voices” top ten chart four months in a row. Her second release, Either/Or World, includes tales of living outside the gender binary and strutting Commercial Street in your “Ptown Pants”. Nevermore, the band’s third album, arrived this year.
The full band features Di Gioia on vocals and rhythm guitar, J Hagenbuckle on lead guitar, Melody Masi on backing vocals and Peter Giordano on bass. Together their sound is upbeat, guitar driven, and powered by danceable rhythms, with influences from surf to rockabilly to swing blues.
Out Late has shared the stage with folk rock veteran Catie Curtis, been featured at The Cape Cod Women’s Music Festival, Eastham’s First Encounter Coffeehouse, the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod’s Songwriter Series, First Night celebrations in Sandwich, Chatham, and Northern Vermont, and a host of New England coffeehouses, festivals and benefits. Out Late is also a three time finalist in the Cape’s Eventide Songwriting Competition.
