After The Taking
A Poem by Melanie Black

Circle of prayers –death in a pond —
The black winged cherubim shake cat-tails
until the seeds fly out.

Morning dove coos plaintive in the firs
while angels and dragonflies flit near the curve
where lilies open to the sky.

Crickets and bird calls spirit sunset’s glow.
Moon casts a scabrous light
as the naked doll floats face down,

speaking to no one as an air bubble rises
from the throat of a bull frog.
Hooting, an all-seeing eye bears witness.
