A 3-part clay workshop taught by local potter, Judith Newcomb Stiles for anyone who wants to explore the drape mold technique of making bowls. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. She loves beginners. All necessary tools and clay are provided. Stiles will walk you through how to make a bowl with applied texture from leaves, buttons, combs, etc. Second week is a crash course in glazing your bowl that will be bisqued in her studio and brought back to the library. Third week - you will try different glaze techniques on tiles and the goo-gahs (totems) that you made with your excess clay.
Judith Newcomb Stiles is a potter from Wellfleet and owner of the Newcomb Hollow Shop. She taught ceramics on the faculty of Skidmore College and headed the MFA program in Ceramics at Pratt Art Institute. After teaching, she opened a production pottery in NYC, specializing in cremation urns for the brave young men of Greenwich Village who died of AIDS. As a side hustle she wrote a novel about the naughty people of Wellfleet. HUSH LITTLE FIRE (May 2025 release) also explores the profound beauty of kiln firings and clay. Go to: judithstiles.com
