Little Free Libraries

The Friends of the Provincetown Public Library work with the library staff to run three Litle Free Libraries in town. The concept is simple: take a book, leave a book. And even if you don't have one to leave, feel free to take one!

Current locations:

  • The Library, Commercial Street side

  • Provincetown Schools, 12 Winslow Street, with an emphasis on titles for younger readers

  • Stop & Shop, 56 Shank Painter Road

  • West End Parking Lot, Commercial Street

All are checked frequently to ensure a fresh array of titles.

Who we are

The Friends were started in 1973 to sponsor activities like children’s programming, the acquisition of special book editions, and to fund and maintain library equipment. The Friends operated the Library’s immensely popular Book Sale for many years.

The Supporters came together in 1994 to support and underwrite special projects at the Library, like computers and internet access, access technology and hardware, the Library renovation Capital Campaign and the renovation of the belfry.

In 2015 the Friends and Supporters joined forces in support of this critical community institution. We elected to retain the name Friends of the Provincetown Public Library in honor of an early and ardent champion of the Friends, Mary O’Malley.

We are a 501(c)(3) organization. All contributions are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
