We Are All Whalers: Michael Moore and Stormy Mayo in Conversation

Thursday, April 28 at 7:00 pm at the Center for Coastal Studies and via Zoom

Marine scientist and veterinarian Michael J. Moore, Ph.D, argues in his book “We Are All Whalers” that our contemporary reliance on global shipping and our habit of purchasing seafood harvested in an unsustainable way make consumers as culpable in dwindling whale populations as the whalers who once killed them with harpoons and intentional trauma.

A Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute scientist, Moore joins Center for Coastal Studies North Atlantic Right Whale scientist Dr. Charles “Stormy” Mayo in a conversation based on their combined 80 plus years of field work with whales. They will discuss the historic and current plight of whales, including their injuries and death from ship strikes and entanglements with fishing rope. And they will also offer optimism about the way new technologies, like ropeless fishing and acoustic tracking of whale migrations, are making a difference.

Free admission.

This will be presented both in-person at the Center For Coastal Studies, 5 Holway Avenue, Provincetown and virtually on Zoom. To join us virtually, please sign up online.
