Thursday, March 31 at 4:00 pm via Zoom

Please join us to listen and participate in this unique discussion of oysters, art, and aquaculture. Email araff@clamsnet.org to sign up.

Speakers:

Thor Jensen: Marine biologist, artist, and Provincetown resident.
Thor will discuss his experience working on an oyster far in 2021 and creating a piece of art that expresses his vision of the aquaculture community and oysters.

Abigail Archer: Fisheries and aquaculture specialist with Barnstable County’s Cape Cod Cooperative Extension and Woods Hole Sea Grant.
Abigail will discuss the marine program and how it supports aquaculture and the economic and historical importance of shellfishing and aquaculture on Cape Cod with a focus on Provincetown.

Kalliope & Michael Chute: Shellfish Farmers
Kalliope and Mike will discuss their oyster farms and the experience with Thor as he explored the flats and created a unique and reciprocal vessel to give space to his vision.

In 2021, the Provincetown EDC gave Kalliope a grant to create an artistic perspective of the shellfish and aquaculture community in Provincetown. The Provincetown EDC highlighted aquaculture as an important component of the emerging Blue Economy. Aquaculture remains largely unknown to the visitors of the flats and is an area of interest in those visitors. Provincetown’s developing aquaculture industry is unrepresented and is an evolving economic stimulator.
